Destination

Explore two of La Fortuna’s icons in one day, hiking Arenal Volcano’s lava trails with a naturalist guide and swimming beneath the 70-meter La Fortuna Waterfall, with a traditional Costa Rican lunch included.

Spend a full day exploring two of La Fortuna's most iconic natural landmarks. Begin at Arenal Volcano, where your naturalist guide leads you along well-maintained trails through ancient lava formations and rainforest, with views of the volcano's perfectly shaped cone. Along the way, you may spot exotic birds, monkeys, and other tropical wildlife while learning about the volcano's eruptions and the ecosystems it has shaped.

Continue to La Fortuna Waterfall, a 70-meter cascade that plunges into a turquoise pool surrounded by tropical vegetation. Descend a scenic trail of approximately 500 steps through the rainforest, then take a swim in the cool, clear water at the base of the falls.

A traditional Costa Rican lunch is included, the perfect way to recharge after the climb back up. Ideal for active travelers and nature lovers, this experience brings together the volcano and the waterfall that define the Arenal region in a single day.

    Daniel Alvarado

    Driver Guide · ES, EN

Around twelve years in Costa Rican tourism. On the drive between Guanacaste and Arenal he points out how fast the landscape and climate change, and shares the history of both regions along the way. His picks: the Palo Verde boat safari and Rincón de la Vieja's Pailas trail.

  • Kevin Arias, Naturalist Guide at Puma Expeditions

    Kevin Arias

    Naturalist Guide · ES, EN

Twenty years guiding Costa Rica as a general and naturalist guide, with a special passion for botany: he points out plant adaptations, ecological relationships and the quiet work that trees, flowers and lianas do in the ecosystem. His favorite day is Palo Verde, where wildlife, tropical wetlands, cultural traditions and history meet — and the birdlife is spectacular.

  • Ronny Bonilla, Driver Guide at Puma Expeditions

    Ronny Bonilla

    Driver Guide · ES, EN

Twenty-two years in tourism, from restaurants to tour sales to driving and guiding. Místico is his favorite trail: rich in wildlife, easy to walk, and full of the forest's secrets. On transfers north he loves the moment the dry Pacific crosses an invisible line into rainforest green.
