Hike through Tenorio Volcano National Park to the bright blue Río Celeste Waterfall and Los Teñideros, where your guide explains how the river gets its color. The day continues with a sloth observation walk and an interactive coffee and chocolate tour with tastings, plus a traditional Costa Rican lunch.

Spend a full day exploring Tenorio Volcano National Park, home to the Río Celeste, with a blend of nature, wildlife, and culture. Set out on a guided 2.5-hour hike through the rainforest to the Río Celeste Waterfall, where the river's bright blue water drops into a pool below. Continue to Los Teñideros, the point where two clear rivers meet and the water turns its distinctive color, as your guide explains the natural process behind it.

After the hike, join a sloth observation experience to see these animals in their natural habitat, with your guide helping you spot them in the trees. Then take part in an interactive tour covering the coffee and chocolate-making process, from bean to cup and cacao pod to bar, with tastings along the way.

Before heading back, enjoy a traditional Costa Rican lunch. Ideal for nature lovers and families, this experience combines one of Costa Rica's most photographed rivers with wildlife and local flavors in a single day.

Around twelve years in Costa Rican tourism. On the drive between Guanacaste and Arenal he points out how fast the landscape and climate change, and shares the history of both regions along the way. His picks: the Palo Verde boat safari and Rincón de la Vieja's Pailas trail.

  • Kevin Arias, Naturalist Guide at Puma Expeditions

    Kevin Arias

    Naturalist Guide · ES, EN

Twenty years guiding Costa Rica as a general and naturalist guide, with a special passion for botany: he points out plant adaptations, ecological relationships and the quiet work that trees, flowers and lianas do in the ecosystem. His favorite day is Palo Verde, where wildlife, tropical wetlands, cultural traditions and history meet — and the birdlife is spectacular.

  • Ronny Bonilla, Driver Guide at Puma Expeditions

Twenty-two years in tourism, from restaurants to tour sales to driving and guiding. Místico is his favorite trail: rich in wildlife, easy to walk, and full of the forest's secrets. On transfers north he loves the moment the dry Pacific crosses an invisible line into rainforest green.
