First the farm, then the falls. The day opens at Don Juan's family hacienda, where local farmers walk you through their coffee and cacao plantations and the whole bean-to-cup process. You taste freshly roasted coffee, grind cocoa beans, and make your own chocolate with methods handed down through generations.
Part two is La Fortuna Waterfall. A scenic trail leads down to where the 70-meter cascade lands in a turquoise pool, ringed by Arenal's rainforest. The swim is the payoff for the walk.
There's also lunch: traditional Costa Rican, fresh local ingredients, well earned.
