Can't pick one activity? This full day at Aromal covers horseback riding, ATV trails, zipline, and the cultural program.

Horseback riding, ATV trails, a zipline canopy run, and the hacienda's cultural side: this is the do-it-all day at Aromal.

The setting is a working hacienda in Guanacaste's tropical dry forest, with local guides running every activity. Between rides, watch for deer, armadillos, monkeys, and tropical birds, and take in the long views over the countryside.

The day includes a Costa Rican lunch, fresh and local. Families and groups handle it fine; the difficulty stays easy even when the pace doesn't.

Twenty years guiding Costa Rica as a general and naturalist guide, with a special passion for botany: he points out plant adaptations, ecological relationships and the quiet work that trees, flowers and lianas do in the ecosystem. His favorite day is Palo Verde, where wildlife, tropical wetlands, cultural traditions and history meet — and the birdlife is spectacular.
